Our client had outgrown their gallery space and decided to move to the new premise in a bustling Lisburn Road in Belfast.

Having worked together with the client before we were delighted to be appointed to refurbish the three-story empty shop unit.

The brief was to create a friendly environment for all art lovers with a focus on art and a bespoke picture framing studio on the top floor.

Design of the shop front was vital. The objective was to stand out from the crowd and its stylish neighbours and to attract passers-by.

The aesthetic is clean, minimal with the contemporary palette of white, black and grey. It is designed to be a canvas where the artwork can be contemplated.

Spotlights, floodlights and wallwashers were carefully selected to optimize the display and to set the mood.

Internally the steel beams, conduits, air-conditioning unit and lights - all at the ceiling level, are painted black and are in contrast with white walls and light grey tiled floor. The counter on the ground floor, a bar space and the office on the first floor were also incorporated to the design as they all play key part in the way this business operates.

The rhythm and pattern of the façade continues through into the design of cabinetry of the reception, counter and bar, which is in contrast to the muted textures and tones of the rest of interior
