They wanted to create a bright and spacious environment for patients to wait for their appointment, with views out and lots of activity within to provide a distraction from any anxiety.
The building occupies an infill site on William Street in Lurgan and sits on the boundary of the Conservation Area.
The building is a replacement premises for a local practice that needed to expand.
Once completed, it was Northern Ireland's largest purpose-built dental surgery.
Due to restricted plot size and an extensive brief, the building needed to operate vertically.
The vertical circulation through the building is provided by the central atrium space that opens directly to a three-storey South facing window, filling the atrium with natural light.
The atrium acts as a thermal chimney to provide natural ventilation.
Exterior materials were selected and detailed to provide a flush surface to the facades with no cills or ledges for the dirt to gather.
The rainwater is handled internally, so there are no exposed downpipes.
The detailing and pattern making of the joints in the rain screen panelling on the upper floors has been carried through the lower gridded tile treatment.
