Renovation in Donaghadee

The house is located on the rocky shore of Donaghadee, nestled between the Irish Sea and Warren Road.

Our clients purchased this extended bungalow with an aBc conversion for its idyllic loca'on and stunning views of the sea, Copland island and Donaghadee town.

The layout of exis'ng dwelling consisted of boxy rooms, small windows, poor daylight and awkward connec'ons between the house and the garden.

We proposed the idea of reducing accommoda'on to increase the volume, thankfully ourclient agreed with the radical approach.

By removing some exis'ng first floor accommoda'on and internal walls, allowed the main space to spread outward and upward, crea'ng a two-storey airy principal room filled with natural light from above.

General reconfiguration and renovation of the remainder of the dwelling’s layout took place to meet our client’s brief, the improved orientation of the rooms, capturing the view, and their personal style and taste.

The existing dwelling had been extended various times in the past with several wall finishes, resulting in a patchwork of different wall surfaces and window alignments. We unified the opening shapes and heights and wrapped the whole building in external insulation and render, to provide a simple, modest and unified appearance.

A triple garage and external covered living area with bespoke BBQ, and outdoor kitchen/dining was created to maximise the views but provide shelter from the sites exposure.
